In it's 60 some years' of existence, israel has been the cause of world-wide violence. No other nation's boundaries have caused such turmoil and bloodshed for so long and on such a global scale. Is is time the world recogize that placing a jewish state in the middle east was a bad idea?
The israeli claim to the land around jerusalem is between 2000 and 3000 years old. 2000 years ago, all of america was possessed by native americans -- if a group of native americans seized manhattan or seattle and said they had a right to the land because they occupied it 2000 years ago, would that have any meaning to the american people?
israel's existence ties strongly to religious prophecies for the 3 great religions of the west, and is both attacked and defended with a ferocity far beyond the value of a 45 mile wide strip of desert. With the threat looming of a new war over israel -- a war greater than any previous war -- is it time to rethink the geography of the israeli state?
If you moved into a home in an unfriendly neighborhood, and spent 60 years at war with your neighbors with no end in sight, wouldn't it be time to consider moving?
I know the political realities make this idea unlikely. But before the world faces a nuclear war in the middle east (a very real possibility in the next few years), the western nations should try to talk sense to israel. The state of israel is roughly the size of the smallest us states. The world should ask israel to end the violence and relocate to a more hospitable location in europe or america.
